Sabbath Is Even More Special To Me Now!

 Sabbath has always been a special day to me, but now it is even more special. I find myself really praising God on Sabbath mornings now because about a month ago, on a Sabbath morning, I realized I was in really bad shape(with Covid). To be honest, There were a couple of times over several days that I thought I would die. That morning(June 26th) God performed several miracles on my behalf and I am so grateful. Now you know why Sabbath is even more special to me now!

What Can You Do Today?

Hello~ I just thought I would check in with my first post of 2020. In the last post I shared about how my church is focusing on Love, Connect and Share. January was the beginning of a new list of small groups and I am happy with the ones I have chosen to participate in. One is a group about Bible Journaling. It really isn't complicated and it helps with thinking on a deeper level as we study the Bible. We are going through the book of Colossian. Basically we read and if a verse or a passage pops out at us - we write that verse down in our notebook and then we write about that passage. Writing questions we may have about the passage. Maybe what our thoughts are about it. How we can apply the passage to our lives. Other verses in the Bible that go along with the passage. Or what God may be pointing out to us through the passage. So many different things. This has really helped me to feel like I am getting more out of studying the Bible.

Another group that I am participating in is a strength training class. This is very much out of my comfort zone but a couple of the ladies in my Sabbath School class wanted to go and I wanted to support them so I went. I think it will be very beneficial to us all.

We have begun studying 1 Corinthians at Prayer Meeting and I am sure that will be interesting.

In February I will be joining an small group as we study Lysa Terkeurst's book "Finding I AM" That should be very interesting.

There are several other groups that look so good that I would love to join but I just don't want to spread myself too thin. I am already studying Morris Vendon's "To Know God" book for Sabbath School- one of my favorite books - will always be on my favorites list - it is a great book - if you have never read it - it is WELL worth the time to read it. And if you would like a copy for free - just leave me a message and I will do my best to get a book to you!!

And also continuing in studying the "Elijah" books by Melissa Spoelstra with my Ladies Group.

Anyway all of this to say I hope that you are studying and working towards a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. It is the MOST important relationship you can have. And I hope you are blessed with the opportunity to study with other Christians. But even if you are not - you always have the opportunity to study and asking the Holy Spirit to join you is worth so much. He will guide your into all truth. And this is important because there are a lot of counterfeits out there.

Love, Connect and Share

Love, Connect, and Share .... This is basically the motto that my church has. I am very blessed to go to a church that realized the importance of not only loving one another as Jesus has loved us -but also the importance of us as Christians connecting with one another. I go to a pretty large church - it has 3 services - early service, a young adult service, and 3rd service. Anyone is welcome at any of these services. With it being such a large church it might feel a little overwhelming to someone coming into the church to get to know people - but this is another area that my church is shining in - we have many different Sabbath School and many of them are discussion type Sabbath Schools. These are smaller groups of people so you can get to know your class mates. Not only are there Sabbath schools - but there are many small groups. Participating in these small groups gives you another way to get to know people. Sharing is also very important to our church. There are many different ministries in our church - I will only be sharing about 2 of them that I participate in. We have a big food pantry once a month- For November - we served about 240 families and about 750 people. We always have a good amount of people show up to volunteer to serve our community. And we even have people in our community that show up to help that are not members of our church, but they want to help and they are included as well. We also have a special food pantry that is specially geared to people in the community that are 55 and older. This program is also once a month. There are programs in our church that provide water for the homeless during the summer and sleeping bags and coats and such during the winter. I think as we study the life of Jesus we will realize that it was very important to him as well to love, connect, and share with his fellow man. I am thankful that God lead me to my church about 1 1/2 years ago- the time has flown by. I am blessed by sermons that uplift Jesus and encourages us along our spiritual journey so get better acquainted with Jesus. A personal relationship with Him is very important.

Learning for a Lifetime

I was raised in the Seventh-day Church. And yet it has still taken me many years to learn some of the important things to learn like love, grace and mercy. I truly believe that our walk with the Lord will last our whole lives with many, many things that we need to learn. Maybe I am hard headed or it's just hard for me to get certain concepts, but I have found that I have learned things over the last 10 years that I should have learned long ago.

Today I want to share a bit of my testimony with you. About 10-11 years ago - I started going to some 12 step type meetings being held at my church. We had a couple in our church who had been addicted to drugs and drinking and they had come through the 12 steps and found freedom from addiction. And then they found the Adventist church. They began a ministry at our church by doing these meetings. I will always be so grateful to them for this ministry. These meetings is how I finally learned the importance of turning my life and my will over to God. Surrendering your life to Him is vitally important. As long as we hold on tight to our lives and the way we want to do things- He doesn't have the opportunity to work the changes in our characters. And trust me our characters need major renovations, I know mine does. This old world is so far away from what God intended this world to be like - it is because of sin - sin only brings destruction and a downward bent to our characters. We need the strength and power from Jesus in order to make the changes needed- and He needs willing hearts to do the work. We need to become as clay - surrendered to the Potter. This is the only way that He can create us into something beautiful!

I hope that you will considering giving your life, heart and soul to Jesus today. May you give Him permission to transform you into His image. May God richly bless you today and everyday as you give Him the freedom to work in your life! :O)

Fixing to Add More

I know I have neglected this blog and I am sorry. When I began it I had an idea of what I wanted to do and I did it. Now I have another angle that I want to explore. It will help get a much better understanding of what Adventists believe. And I think it will be a real blessing to those who will come and read. So stay tuned for new posts. See you soon :O)

Sabbath~ It's a Celebration!

"The Creator and His creatures rested together. Wouldn't you have done the same? Don't you love to take time to celebrate together with your children? Well, God did not want a birthday celebration just once a year, but once a week-every week, on the seventh day, He wants us to remember that we can rest in His faithfulness. So, He set it apart and made it holy so that His children would have a constant reminder that He is their Creator and eventual Redeemer.
By the way, check ...this out! We start to get a glimpse of the creation-redemption theme running from Genesis to Revelation when we analyze this one word in genesis 2:2: "completed" (as it relates to the seventh-day rest celebrating the completion of Creation). The word used in the Septuagint (LXX, the Greek translation of the Old Testament) for "completed" in Genesis 2:2 is the same Greek root word that Jesus cried out at the cross!! "it is completed!" "it is finished!" "it has been accomplished!" (John19:30). Woo-Hoo!"

They have so many awesome resources on this website- things you can listen to and thing you can watch. Be sure and check it out! :O)

Death and Resurrection

 

 

 

This is a daily devotional type of book. What I appreciate about this book is that each day builds on the day before. A new concept is introduced and then slowly the author elaborate more and more in order for us to come away from the book with a better understanding of each topic. This is just one of the books that I have been reading lately.

 

******Today I will be sharing an entry called " Death and Resurrection"******

 

After Adam and Eve fell and lost their home in heaven, they knew that future generations would point to them and say, "You're the cause of all of this pain and heartache and sorrow and death." For over nine hundred years they had to live with this! Can you imagine? Most of us can't take much more than our threescore and ten!

 

So, for nine hundred thirty years, Adam's heart continued to beat. I suppose the enemy beat him over the head unmercifully with guilt and remorse and the temptation to curse God and give up on the whole thing. (Maybe Eve did this. We never hear about her again.) Painful as it was, his life ended one day, and the obituary read: " Adam, father of mankind, dead at the age of 930."

 

Where is Adam now? What do we know about death and the resurrection? Well, according to Scripture, w hen we di we merely go to sleep. "The living know that they will die. But the dead know nothing"(Ecclesiastes 9:5). We're unconscious. There's no knowledge of the passing of time in the grave. So the years since those nine hundred and thirty long years will be only a short time for Adam. From the time he went to sleep until the time of the resurrection will seem like only a moment. I often thing of this when I'm in a cemetery. Just a moment from now (to them) and they'll wake up again! As far as Adam is concerned, he's not in the grave any longer than someone who falls asleep fifteen minutes before Jesus comes.

I know that I started this blog because I wanted to share the basics of what Seventh Day Adventist believe, but today I want to share a post about something that I think is important.

I was taking my Mother in Law to a Dr appointment and on the way she was sharing with me that until she was 30 years old she had never heard that Jesus loved her. Oh I guess I need to share here that my MIL is not a Seventh Day Adventist and was not raised one either - I am not going to share the denomination that she grew up in and was in until she was about 30 year old - because I don't want to do any bashing of the church. Anyway so never had she heard that Jesus loved her until she was 30 years old. How very sad is that?

We get our true value from Jesus Christ - our Creator and our Savior! And when we fully understand how very much God loves us - that is when we can more understand our worth. All we need to do is go to a very well known Bible verse to get the answer of how much God loves us!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

 

6 Reasons from "Christ's Way of Reaching People"

This list come from the current book that I am reading~ "Christ's Way of Reaching People" by Philip G. Samaan. Just wanted to share this with you all.

Christ- motivated and Christ-centered teaching of the Sabbath day:

 

1. Christ from the very beginning involved Himself with man. He demonstrated His love not only by breathing life into him, but also in choosing to set aside a special day to commune with humanity.
2. Christ's love always searches for man, and seeks togetherness with him. In fact, the entire Bible is saturated with reference to His intense desire to be with His people. For Jesus to establish one special day to spend with us is a concrete sign that He loves us, and that we are special to Him.
3. So because man is so important to Christ, He made the Sabbath for him, a particular day reserved just for us and set apart from the rest of the week. Consequently, since the Sabbath is so important to Christ, it follows that it must be the same way to us too.
4. The Sabbath is God's precious love gift of time to us. How do we receive a loving present from a special friend? By graciously accepting it as it is. We should do the same with Christ's gift of the Sabbath by not substituting something else for it.
5. Jesus Himself customarily worshiped on the seventh-day Sabbath. His prophets and disciples did too. Being committed to following Him, we want to live even as He did. How can we go wrong if we follow His example?
6. The Sabbath symbolizes Christ's creation and redemption of man. He rested on that day after He finished His act of creation in the garden, and He also rested on that same day when He finished His act of redemption at Golgotha.
